Did you ever get a Chia pet for a Holiday gift?  Do you remember those awesome commercials with the cute little jingle…CH*CH*CH*CHIA!

Well, Chia seeds are a superfood!  Did you know that?  I am mildly, ok maybe MAJORLY, obsessed with chia seeds since I learned about them and started using them and seeing and feeling the results!

Besides growing “hair” on cute pets, heads, and even celebrities:

Chia seeds can help you:

  • End hunger when you eat it and keep you feeling full longer!
  • Balance your blood sugar and delay the conversion of carbohydrate to sugar
  • Can give you more ENERGY and NO jittery feeling
  • Chia seeds are a complete protein, and a source of Omega-3 oil, calcium, fiber and magnesium

And the best part is, they have no flavor!  This isn’t some nasty tasting thing that you have to hold your nose to eat.

Here’s the skinny with CHIA SEEDS,

  • You must soak them to use them! This is super important because they absorb liquid, which is why they are great for hydration.  These little buggers absorb 9 times their weight in water, which is why they help you to feel full, and when you are feeling full, you eat less, and weigh less…love it!
  • How to soak them? Easy again!  Just take a tablespoon of the dry seeds, they sort of look like really tiny dinosaur eggs, and place into a large cup of water (about 8-10oz.) stir to remove any lumps or clumps and let them soak for at least 10 minutes.  Soaking is VIP, as the seeds absorb water, if they aren’t soaked prior to ingestion they may dehydrate  you, rather then rehydrate you.  Just soak, and then after about 10 minutes a gel is formed in the water, and that’s it!
  • How to use them? You can eat them by the spoonful, add to juice, soup or even hot cereals.  Since they do not change the flavor of your food, it’s really up to your imagination.

My favorite way is to make a delicious refreshing drink, so easy and it keeps me
full…and that fullness assists in eating less, and therefore losing weight!

CHIA ENERGY WATER

  • Take 2 to 4 teaspoons of your *soaked* chia seeds
  • Add 8-12 ounces of water
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • A small squeeze of agave nectar (optional if you want it a little sweet)
  • Mix and drink up buttercup!!

Where do you get Chia seeds? Chia seeds are really inexpensive and can be purchased at any health food store or a larger market such as WholeFoods.  They last for up to 2 years, in a cool dry space, and don’t turn rancid like other seeds can.

Using chia seeds can really help you keep with your health and weight loss goals without side effects or using any unnatural products.

For any important health or medical issues – you should be talking to your doctor – not taking the advice of an on-line blog.

Before embarking on any major change in diet or exercise you must conult your local physician.
